Another quite much time spent on doing stuffs. Lately I have been busy with my studies, and my job got back to be only the second on the priority list. I think it is necessary - i need to progress w/ my studies. Luckily the diploma is getting into horizon, which is pretty good feeling after these years.
To get to the point. I had another test. This was the last one on this semester, the fourth. We needed to design an apartment tower - so called, in the middle of the Great Plain, here in Hungary. Actually the site was fictional, just the idea was there: design a building with vertical setting and install it on a huge vast plain ground, what has not got any particular.
After struggling with all of my scheduling problems, i decided to do some more serious job, than before during these tests. Fortunately after 2 years of non-design intermission I’m slowly getting all my forgotten skills back - or at least i feel something like that. (Designing with given materials is different than make something out of nothing. At my job our team working on old building renovations to meet the present people’s demand, and of course to save as much as we can from all of the historical legacy we have already had all around us. But i think this should need a proper post later…)
So, as i already experimented with prefab’ buildings half and a year ago, i decided to move on into that direction at this time - just the matter of energy saving. Being eco is awesome! Moreover i was curious, too… :)
Anyway, i’d rethought the former concept knowing the given details what the task required. There were a 42x42m big orthogonal raster made by 6x6m big smaller squares. That means 49 pcs of 6x6 plots, as you noticed. Now design 16 building on that 42by42 area using the facts that none of the building’s gross area could be bigger than the plot itself, a car needed to be parked inside the plot border, and the building disposition could be anything. We had to detail only one element of the whole dwelling idea. Vertically the building could be any tall. It’s simple as that…
And here is my idea:
These towers made of 6x6x3m blocks. Every block has different function. The layout planned to be usable, sustainable, and flexible during everyday usage. The blocks order is variable - depends on the ‘buyer’s’ need and his purse size, of course. Therefore with these technology any size and kind of building could be build, with a small limitation comes from formal issues, thats a given compromise. All buildings can be extend upwards with extra blocks later on, as the owners wish, or when the first baby arrives into a young family. Nice isn’t it? :D
As you can see below, using these structures makes quite interesting spaces as we put them together - rather fictional than rational…
Is there no lift, isn’t it? It’s compact and conceptual. And an elevator costs hack of a money in compare of these buildings. Being eco… blah-blah. To tell you the truth, there was no space for an elevator. 36sqm gross is fairly not enough for serious business. Although following this line I think amazing mega- and giga-structures can be imagined.
I’ve already had some ideas…
ps. sorry for the non-translated text on the boards, i’s lack of humor to change them on the original files.
